This 4-band End-fed antenna (Part No. EKP-H150213-EFANT-4) is a 1/2 wave-length style wire antenna (EFHWA) which enables you to operate on 3 ham radio bands, 40M, 20M 15M and 10M The EKP-H150213-EFANT-4 is also an antenna of self-resonance, that’s to say you don’t need an antenna tuner to make it work on different ham bands, and you don’t need to do any settings or “switching” on the antenna itself, when you want to change from one ham band to another. As the antenna is half-wave in length, like the center-fed dipole antenna, you don’t need to grounding the antenna. The full antenna consists of a matchbox, a piece of AWG16 wire radiator, and 1 piece of end insulator. All of these features make it an ideal antenna for field or SOTA operation.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS :

1. Can I use the matchbox on other bands?

Yes, the matchbox is the main trick of the antenna. You can operate the antenna as a mono-bander by cutting a 1/2 wavelength wire attaching to the matchbox. Calculate the approximate length from L= 468/F(MHz). As an example a 25’ 10” wire will allow operation on 17M as a mono-bander.

2. What is the radiation pattern of the End-fed Half-wave Antenna?

This antenna is essentially a half wave dipole with one important difference, the feedline is at the end of the antenna. The antenna is suspended at its ends by the two hanging points. So, the characteristics are identical to a center fed dipole.

3. Does this antenna require a ground?

No, it does not require a ground. If you do ground the antenna at the matchbox, you will likely see no change in VSWR or resonant frequency.

4. Does this antenna require a tuner to work on different bands?

No tuner is required, nor should one be used. Take the short time required to tune the antenna.

5. Can I add additional 1/2 wave wires to the matchbox and work multi-bands?

No. Unlike a center (current) fed dipole in which a fan arrangement of wires allows for multiband operation, the wires on an endfed (voltage) must appear in series- either through a trap/choke arrangement or harmonically related frequencies (eg. 7/14/21/28 MHz).

6. Can I combine the multiple coax from the different matchboxes for a single downlead?

No. You will need a remote switchbox or separate feedlines.
